On March 30th at a studio in the heart of Brooklyn, I recorded some music with two of the greatest guitar players I know - Mike Bono and Julian Lage. After recording a tune for Mike’s upcoming record, they had time left over to play some more music. Here is a free improvisation from that session.
We need your help! A couple of months ago we began work on Christian Li’s debut album. He and the other musicians involved happen to be my closest friends and some of the best musicians that I’ve ever heard. Christian writes incredible music and we’re all very excited to make this record and release it to the world.
Christian is currently trying to raise money to fund the remainder of the process. There is still a lot of work to be done (mixing, mastering, printing, promotion) and we need your help to make it happen. Please take a moment to check out the campaign and get involved if you’re inspired to do so!
Really excited to announce that the debut album from Oblio is now available! We’ve been working hard on this record since the end of the Summer and it’s finally ready to share with the world. Oblio is the brainchild of Asher Kurtz, who is one of the most creative and incredible musicians and guitar players I have ever known. The record features a wonderful cast of people and players and was an absolute pleasure to make. Please check it out! It is available for whatever price you decide on (including nothing at all).
Meet Mohsin Shezad. I left my iPhone in the backseat of Mohsin’s cab on Thursday. When he discovered it, he drove back to where he’d dropped me off, and spent several minutes looking for me. When I finally called an hour later, he was all the way across town, but drove 30 minutes to meet me. Then he tried his damnedest to refuse a reward, saying: “Please sir, your fare was enough. Please sir, no.”
This man has a wonderful and humble soul.
I spent the past week at Wellspring Sound studios in Acton, MA, working on two different projects. The first was the debut record of Mike Bono, who is one of the most creative guitar players I have ever heard. The second was for Christian Li - one of the most astounding musicians, piano players, and human beings I have ever known. The cast of characters for both records was such a stellar group of musicians, and we captured two very beautiful (and extremely different) stories. Both experiences reminded me how fortunate I am do be doing what I’m doing, and working with the musicians that I get to work with. I’m extremely excited for the world to hear all of this inspring music.
The wonderful shot above was taken by Nick Pfent during day one of Mike’s session (you can see Mike playing guitar and Naseem Alatrash on the cello behind him).
Finished up vocals for Siv Jakobsen’s upcoming record this past weekend. We’ve been working on things since early December. Excited to share in the next couple of months.
Some footage of the session I had with Sid Sriram at Converse’s Rubber Tracks studio in Brooklyn this past Fall. You can download the track right here.
My good friend Mike Bono is going to be making a record next March with his group. They are some of the best musicians I have ever known, and they also happen to be some of my best friends. Mike is one of the most phenomenal guitar players I have ever seen, and all of the players in the group are on that same level. The record is also going to feature a duet between Mike and Julian Lage. I’m fortunate to be recording/mixing this album along with one Charlie Van Kirk.
Mike is currently trying to raise money for the project, and it would mean the world to him, and all of us involved, if you would check out his video and donate. Donations are rewarded in various ways, such as copies of the record, posters, Skype lessons, and even private concerts. Please take a look and help support some beautiful music!
Excited to share this new track from Veronika Morscher. I posted another one called Infant Eyes a while back. Both of these were recorded in a single two-hour session from 12-2am one night in August. These are some of my favourite musicians, and favourite people, in the entire world. This one is a Jimmy Rowles tune, with lyrics by Norma Winstone.
The Yesberger Band just dropped the first single from their upcoming album. I recorded this earlier this year, and it was produced/mixed by Charlie Van Kirk. These guys are so much fun to work with, and I think you can tell by listening to it. Check it out!
