"The Dome" was a novel 360° Virtual Reality theatre for the inaugural Panorama Festival in New York City. Best described as a psychedelic planetarium, it features twelve minutes of music and sound design, contained in an unprecedented, spherical, 3-dimensional mix. A custom, ambisonic workflow was used to place sound in 38 speakers throughout the 70-foot dome, with percussive delays bouncing across the space, swaths of synths swirling around you and sound design pulsing from the ground to the dome’s apex, all scored to the immersive, grand visuals. The piece warranted hour-long lines and was heralded as a highlight of the weekend, receiving press from Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, Mashable and The New Yorker.
